Mobius

Mobius is the setting of all official canonical to all things Sonic according to the original American continuity.

also known as Mobius Prime and "Sonic's World", is the homeworld of the Mobians, and Overlanders. It is still unknown exactly what was the starting point for their calendar, but its was likely calculated using what the Echidna Tomes call the Days of Fury. Mobius has endured many conflicts, including the Great War, the war against Dr. Ivo Robotnik and subsequent war with Dr. Eggman, and a failed attack by the Xorda. Much of it remained under the control of the Eggman Empire, though some sections of it remain free from its tyrrany. However, in late 3237, the Eggman Empire collapsed with the defeat of Dr. Eggman. However, some of its territories were usurped by the two Sub-Bosses; the Iron King and Iron Queen, expanding the control of their Iron Dominion and becoming the new global threat to peace. The planet has another planet, the Miracle Planet that once acted as a satellite but is now chained to Mobius' Never Mountain.

The Kintobor Computer claimed that Mobius was in a small galaxy that was "117,63222 light years from Earth", in a parallel dimension, in a different time zone and the whole region is made up of dark matter.

HistoryEdit

Since the beginning of time Dark Gaia and Light Gaia have been sleeping in Mobius' core and, Dark awakens to destroy Mobius and Light restores it.

Over 4,000 years ago, two warring civilizations of Echidnas, the Knuckles Tribe and Nocturnus Tribe existed. In order to overcome their foes, Pachacamac, the leader of the Knuckles tribe, attempted to steal the Chaos Emeralds from the Chao. His civilization was almost completely wiped out by their guardian Chaos in the process after he transformed into a terrible monster. In that same time, a series of sentient weapons, the Gizoids, were created by the Nocturnus tribe, one of which was thought to have destroyed the "Fourth Great Civilization." In actuality, this Great Civilization was the tribe themselves, and they were all really pulled into a different dimension known as the Twilight Cage after conquering nearly all of the ancient world. The alien Black Doom seems to have been observing the planet and warped the Glyphic Canyon to it over 2,000 years ago.

The Black Comet passes by Mobius every 50 years before it was destroyed by the Eclipse Cannon.

50 years ago, aboard the Space Colony ARK, Professor Gerald Robotnik was forced by the President of that time to create the Ultimate Life Form. Aided by Black Doom, they created Shadow the Hedgehog. Gerald also studied the Gizoid, Chaos and the Chaos Emeralds. Later,G.U.N. invaded ARK and either imprisoned or killed all those related with "Project: Shadow". This was because of their fear of Professor Gerald Robotnik's work. Gerald's granddaughter Maria Robotnik, who had become very close to Shadow, was killed and Shadow was sent to Mobius. Gerald was later executed on Prison Island.

Recently, the planet has been constantly pained by Dr. Eggman, attacked by the monster Chaos, threatened with impact by the falling ARK, invaded by Black Doom and the Black Arms, nearly sucked into a giant black hole, and broken apart and plagued by the hyper energy organism Dark Gaia. All disasters have been stopped by Sonic, Shadow and their allies who use the powers of the Chaos Emeralds to protect the world time and again, something the President has admiration to them for.

PrehistoricEdit

Millions of years before the present day, Mobius was a barren, mountainous planet that supported no life. One day, a pair of dinosaurs in spacesuits arrived, tasked with injecting basic organisms into the planet's ecosystem. Current day heroes Amy Rose and Tekno the Canary were given the reward of getting to see this historic occasion (although mistakenly attacked their creators beforehand). It is implied that a higher being was the employer of the dinosaurs, suggesting a deity created the planet itself. Nearly 12,000 years ago, an alien race known as the Xorda came to the planet to offer an alliance to its population. However, the emissary they dispatched was captured, studied and subsequently dissected by a group of scientists led by Ivan Kintobor, a leading scientist at the time. Ivan had hoped to use the captured alien and its technology to produce the robot Isaac as well as numerous other creations. His methods however proved antagonistic towards the Xorda. In retaliation, the aliens bombarded the planet with Gene Bombs with the intention of exterminating all life on the planet.

Early HistoryEdit

Approximately 10,000 years ago, the planet suffered a massive environmental cataclysm. The Gene Bombs were supposed to preserve Mobius' environment as it was when it was attacked. However, their interaction with the planet caused massive volcanic reactions, quakes, and massive storms, hurling billions of tons of ash and dirt into the air. This is what is chronicled as the First Day of Fury in Echidna theology.

Shortly after this cataclysm, the event known as the Coming of the Chaos Emeralds occurred. Mysteriously, the green Chaos Emeralds reigned down on the planet from the sky. This resulted in dramatic global weather changes, eventually causing the extinction of the Mobosaurs. However, it also gave rise to the omnipotent beings known as the Ancient Walkers and provided immortality to Mammoth Mogul, when one of the descending Chaos Emeralds embedded itself in his chest.

The "Gene Bomb" origin theory provided by Isaac is considered to be false as other evidence is contradictory to this. As there is no contrary evidence to these events happening.

The Days of Fury continued to affect Mobius for thousands of years, right up to modern day. The Echidna Tomes describe them as "natures way of adjusting to environmental changes it undergoes over a certain duration" according to Athair. Prior to the Day of Fury which happened in the year 3235, Athair stated the last recorded Day of Fury happened some "twelve hundred years ago".

At some point in time, the early dragons were supposedly born in the Dragon Kingdom region of Mobius. The dragons warred amongst themselves for generations, until they realised the destruction wrought on the land. After this the various dragons settled throughout Mobius.

Approximately 9,700 years ago, the Echidnas were already well developed in their colony of Albion. The Albion Knights of Aurora found themselves defending the planet against the wizard caste known as the Order of Ixis, which was bent on world domination and was subservient to their founder Mammoth Mogul. Despite the Order's incredible powers, the Albion Knights successfully defeated Mogul during the Forgotten War, effectively wiping out all of the Order of Ixis. However, Mogul and three members, Agunus, Nusgau, and Suguna, survived the Forgotten War. The latter three wizards eventually merged to form the individual wizard Ixis Naugus thousands of years later. It was also during the Forgotten War that monstrous creatures of various species, collectively known as Mutates, began to appear across the planet, though in limited numbers.

The 300 year period between the Coming of the Chaos Emeralds and the Forgotten War is based off Mammoth Mogul's look when he was 300 years old, 'due to him having the same look during the Forgotten War. This is only a rough estimate.

8000 years ago, an echidna tribe were the most dominant species on Mobius. Living on what is now the Floating Island's Megopolis City, Pochacmac stole the Chaos Emeralds from the Drakon Empire, leading to a full-scale war on Mobius. The conflict was a long-drawn out one that presumably saw the end of the echidna race by the end. In order for there always to be a guardian of the Master Emerald, Pochacmac made a deal with criminal Vichama that would make Knuckles the Echidna immortal.

Developing SocietiesEdit

Approximately 1,000 years ago, Dave, an Echidna from Albion, ventured out into space, exploring other planets and moons on the Monolith.

Approximately 600 years ago, a White Comet hurling towards Echidnaopolis in the continent of Downunda was discovered by the Echidna scientists Jordann and Kayla-La. Using their knowledge of the Chaos Emeralds, the two scientists managed to use the Chaos Emeralds' powers to lift their city into the sky, after the Fire Ants dug underneath the city to separate it from the continent — thus creating the Floating Island.

Meanwhile, the other Mobians learned from the Echidnas on how to structure themselves into societies. One Mobian, Alexander, decided to pool the various groups resources and knowledge together to form a single society. While the Overlanders proved too violent in nature to be included, and the Echidnas chose to exclude themselves from joining the group, the other Mobians pulled together and created Mobotropolis - the first multicultural city on the planet.

Peace on MobiusEdit

Doctor Kintobor made friends with the talking animals of the region and soon started making technological improvements to the world such as installing Star Posts for easy travel and building the Retro-Orbital Chaos Compresser in order to absorb all evil into the newly-discovered Chaos Emeralds. Kintobor made friends with a speedy Sonic the Hedgehog and the pair worked together to find the missing Gray Emerald. Before his plan could see fruition, Kintobor was involved in an "accident" that saw him transform into the evil Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

RBR and MetallixEdit

The next few years saw the tyrant attempt to conquer the whole of Mobius by force, with two large-scale efforts foiled by old friend Sonic and his sidekick, Tails. After a few more small attempts that saw him move away to the Special Zone, Robotnik eventually achieved his dream by sending Sonic and friends into the future, leaving him free to rule the world. Another four years would be spent living under RBR (Ruled by Robotnik) and they would be miserable for just about every civilian. Based in the Metropolis Zone's Citadel Robotnik, the doctor ruled with an iron fist, forcing citizens into hard manual labour and stationing brutal Trooper Badniks across the planet. Those who resisted would be sent to a Badnik Processing Plant to lose all free will. Fortunately, Sonic and his new gang of Freedom Fighters returned to be a driving force in the rebellion against dictatorship. Despite many lows and losing a member, the team stuck together and travelled the planet, waiting for their final victory.

The battle against Robotnik saw many fronts and took part in many Zones, with Mobians rarely losing hope that Sonic would free them in the end. Nevertheless, the people of the planet were regularly subjected to threats like the Death Egg, Commander Brutus and the Brotherhood of Metallix. The latter band of villains managed to create a Pirate Omni-Viewer that allowed them to head into the past and completely rewrite the history of Mobius. Renamed Planet Metallix, Mobius became a completely murderous place to live with the only surviving living creatures forced underground to evade the metallic rulers. With the help of the Chaotix Crew and the original Omni-Viewer, Sonic managed to return history to the correct timeline, if only by causing the accident that doomed his friend.

A year later, Sonic found himself stuck in the Special Zone and the remaining Freedom Fighers struggled against the increasing odds against them. Even with Shortfuse the Cybernik temporarily joining their side, the team were pushing themselves to the limit. A routine trip to sabotage Citadel Robotnik ended up with the heroes encouraging the people of Metropolis City into a full-blown riot, although one that nearly saw them killed. Fortunately, the machinations of Sonic in the Special Zone resulted in the Black Asteroid arriving in the sky and causing an Electromagnetic pulse that wiped out every computer system on the planet. Doctor Robotnik was shortly afterwards captured and a new era began on Mobius.

Post V.R. Day, Robotnik Reigns SupremeEdit

With a new world leader an undesirable concept after Robotnik, Sonic made an off-hand remark that each Zone should have its own Zone Leader - an idea that stuck. Each Zone presumably elected its own ruler and maintained this in a democratic way in many Zones. There were those, such as the Coal Creek Zone, that continued a militaristic rule, but this was rare. However, before long, Robotnik returned on Flickies' Island to regain his rule of the planet. Despite his many attacks on his former home, Robotnik was never able to gain control even for a little bit thanks to Sonic and friends. Even with the help of the powerful Drakon Empire, Mobius continued to remain free. However, a clever plan involving Grimer saw Robotnik gain the power of the Chaos Emeralds and became a physical God.

Completely teeming with power, Robotnik recreated reality in his own image, turning each Zone into how he would like to rule it. Watching from the skies, the tyrant then made life even more miserable in this timeline, sentencing citizens to death for talking in the streets and making sure it rained if someone said the weather was nice. In this timeline of Mobius, Sonic found he had absolutely no friends and almost broke under Robotnik's relentless torture. Fortunately, Sonic continuously managed to make things go his way, tricking Robotnik into sending him to the Floating Island to get the help of Knuckles the Echidna. Combined, the heroes managed to remove the Emerald power from Robotnik and seemingly shrank him to nothing.

ApocalypseEdit

In actuality, Robotnik had just been sent to the sub-atomic world of Shanazar, where Sonic eventually followed. Thanks to plans set under way by the doctor on the planet, Shanazar managed to grow to occupy the same space as Mobius, with New Zones opening on Mobius. For some time, Sonic, Amy and Tekno explored these new regions but were soon distracted by Robotnik's new insane plan - to destroy the world. With the help of alien lifeforms The Plax, Robotnik constructed a device that started to kill the planet. A last-ditch attempt by all the heroes, allowed them to save the day. Grimer then released the Chaos creature that managed to kill long-time Freedom Fighter Johnny Lightfoot and sank the Floating Island. A sacrifice by Sonic saw Chaos destroyed and the status quo return (minus Johnny).

  • Sonic the Hedgehog returns from outer space and helps to prevent the Eggman Empire from launching nuclear missiles.
  • Golden Hive Colony is obliterated by the Eggman Empire with almost no survivors.

  • The Great Harmony is achieved by the "Chosen One", who subsequently sent all the Chaos Emeralds into the Zone of Silence.

  • Geoffrey St. John turns on Sonic and restores Ixis Naugus' mind with the purple Chaos Emerald.
  • Ixis Naugus tells the Council of Acorns that New Mobotropolis is his kingdom.

Between 3237 and 3437 P.X.E.:

  • A "legendary" figure among the Freedom Fighter groups purportedly betrays them and starts a chain reaction of cataclysmic events that brings ruin to Mobius.
  • The ARK falls out of its orbit around Mobius and crashes into the planet's surface, causing untold amounts of damage and is left to burn itself out.
  • The Great Krudzu Spore presents itself as a significant threat to the world's remaining population before it is eliminated by Silver.

200 years into the future (3437 P.X.E.):

  • Silver the Hedgehog is trained as a Knight of Kronos under Mammoth Mogul while researching and traveling to the past at various points in order to find the traitor and prevent the current future from occurring.

Parallel timelinesEdit

Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat hail from an alternate future where the planet has been largely destroyed by Iblis. With Mephiles' help they travel back to Sonic's time and when Mephiles fuses with Iblis to become Solaris and destroy the world, Sonic, Shadow and Silver transform into their super states and defeat Solaris. Sonic and Elise travel back to when Solaris was just a small flame and Elise blew it out destroying Solaris forever. This timeline is negated and the future is in peace.

General FactsEdit

Mobius is a planet like most of the inhabited Earth-like planets in the universe. It is about the same size as the planet Earth, has the same atmosphere, and has around the same continent positions. It has blue water, light blue shallow water, dark blue deep water, green grassy land, yellow desert or very dry land, olive marsh/swamp, dark green forest and/or rainforest, green-blue pine forest, brown tundra and white ice. There are major differences between the two, however, such as species that reside on the planet and history. Mobius has one moon, and is located in a solar system that is, again, like Earth’s and has 9 planets. (It has been said that Earth scientists have taken away their smallest planet Pluto and reduced the count to nine, but here it’s still 8.) There are also some artificial moons that orbit the planet, such as ones used for radio transmissions, and the Space Colony ARK, now inactive, orbits the planet as well.

GeographicalEdit

Mobius has 8 continents, all with the same area and size as Earth ones, and an added one named Widalada. Widalada is in a location between Asia and North America, and is small, but recognized as a continent for its many cultures. More are detailed in the Towns and Cities section.

SpeciesEdit

There are many species of life on Mobius. There are two dominant species that are common: the human and the anthropomorphic animal. “Anthros”, as they are called by humans, shouldn’t be classified in one catorgory, as there are many different types. They are just like their wild counterparts, only they have developed the same way humans have, and can read, write, and think imaginatively. There are also less dominant, but vastly important animals, such as chao for pets. Most of the time, humans and the anthro animals get along fine. However, many periods in time have tried to destroy the peaceful living, and there are some that still try today.

This is divided into 4 sections: one for each dominant species, one for cities where they live almost 50/50, and other.

RegionsEdit

The regions of Mobius are divided into Zones. There is a great number of them, varying from lush, green areas, to bustling cities and uninhabitable deserts. These Zones are located on unknown continents, many of which are on islands (such as South Island and Flickies Island.

Background InformationEdit

  • The first map of Mobius shown in SSS #2 showed the "Land of a Million Lights" to be located in the "South Africa" part of the planet. However, the map shown in StH #194 located it where the Lethal Radioactive Zone from the first map was. The new map also listed Station Square in the location the Mysterious Cat Country was located on the older map, instead of just being located nearby. It is unknown if these were retcons or simply mistakes.
  • The name Mobius may be based off of Möbius syndrome, which is also spelled Moebius, an extremely rare congenital neurological disorder which is characterized by facial paralysis and the inability to move the eyes from side to side.
  • Mobius is an American concept.
  • Mobius' landmasses are similar in shape to Earth's, but are fragmented.

YearEdit

  • The exact date of the Mobian calendar is unknown. However, the year is currently mid-late 3237. While it would have been 3238 if Sonic had spent a full year in space, StH: #155 had Tails state he was still eleven, and in StH: #157 Dr. Eggman's computer monitor clearly showed the year as 3237.
  • It is unknown what year the early Sonic issues take place. However, StH #188 established that Sonic was eight-years-old when he first fought against the Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad, placing issues with them at 3228. It is known that Dr. Robotnik was defeated in 3235 as he was said for have ruled for ten years, and the year 3236 came into being some time before StH #69, as Sonic officially turned 16 then. With the following information in mind, here is a rough estimate of what issues take place in what year:
    • 3228–3234: StH: #1 — #24
    • 3235: StH: #25 — #57
    • 3236: StH: #58 — #125
    • 3237: StH: #130 — *comics ongoing*
  • As of StH #148 (Mobian year 3237), Ivan Kintobor was born 12,010 years ago, in the Earth calendar year 2006, putting Mobius' year at 14,016 CE.
